Garajonay Suite (Digital EP)
Garajonay Suite (Digital EP)
This suite represents the legend of Gara and Jonay through the author's vision. He wanted to capture a contemporary image of this history in six parts: a prelude and five movements.
Prelude. Gara's Dream.
This part tries to evoke the complexity of Gara's dreams and nightmares about the prophecy that concerns her.
Movement I. Jonay.
The first movement represents the vision that Gara has when she meets the boastful, conceited and strange prince Jonay.
Movement II. The Meeting of Gara and Jonay.
Gara and Jonay meet and love arises, a love that continuously and quickly flows into a passion.
Movement III. Jonay's Judgment.
Gara feels that the prophecy is being fulfilled and begins to have nightmares about it. Jonay is unaware of the prophecy, and Gara takes him with her to the forest to flee. Meanwhile, in the village, the soldiers go out in search of the two young men, until they hunt Jonay down. In my version of the legend, Gara does not die...
Movement IV. Gara's Lament.
Gara whistles his lament to the forest, and the birds reciprocate. Despite Jonay's death, her love for him remains intact. Love overcomes ignorance and hatred.
Movement V. San Borondón.
This movement is a gift for the people and the island of La Gomera. It is based on a poem by the Gomeran writer Isabel Medina, about the ghost island of San Borondón. The original legend tells that San Borondón is a terrifying island where you get stuck if you run aground on it. The writer turns this legend around and talks to us in her poem about a magical island, where you would like to arrive and never leave again. This vision of Isabel about San Borondón could be applied to our lives, dreams and illusions.
