About
“Natanael submerges us in an ocean of emotions through the many cultures present in his home, the Canary Islands.”
Born in La Orotava (Canary Islands, Spain) in 1988. Natanael graduated with a Master in Jazz Music degree at the CvA (Conservatorium van Amsterdam) with Ruud Breuls, Jan Oosthof, Joris Roelofs and many others after having completed the Bachelor in Jazz Trumpet at MUSIKENE (Center for Advanced Musical Studies of the Basque Country) with trumpeter Chris Kase. He has also been taught by Perico Sambeat, Bob Sands, Miguel Blanco, Roger Mas, Joaquin Chacon, and masterclasses with Wynton Marsalis, Branford Marsalis, Ambrose Akinmusire, Avisahi Cohen, Terence Blanchard, Terrell Strafford, Till Brönner, Jerry Bergonzi, Polo Orti, Javier Colina, David Pastor and many others.
He leads his own band, a latin jazz nonet ‘La Banda del Solar’ and a salsa collective in Tenerife called ‘IBAKÓ’, projects for which he composes and arranges. At the same time, Natanael is the artistic director of the Atlantic Laboratory for Jazz And New Musics.
During his career he has played with Rogier Telderman, Reinier Baas, Ben van Gelder, Joris Roelofs, Pol Belardi, Maciek Kadziela, etc and performed in several countries like Spain, Germany, Denmark, France, Holland, Luxembourg, Norway, Poland, Czech Republic, Russia, Sweden and Ukraine; in festivals and venues like North Sea Jazz Festival, BIMHUIS (Amsterdam), LantarenVenster (Rotterdam), Paradox (Tilburg), Krongsberg Jazz Festival (Norway), Like A Jazz Machine (Luxembourg), Heineken Jazzaldia of Donostia – San Sebastian, Ezcaray Jazz Festival, Lugo Jazz Festival, Canarias Jazz&Más Festival, Canarias Jazz Showroom, Jazz Festival Bonn (Germany), etc.
On the latin music side he has been member of ‘Caracas Latin Brothers’ and MG Son Iyá latin orchestras. With these two bands he has also accompanied artists such as Tito Nieves, Edwin Rivera, Tony Tun Tun, Tony Vega, Charlie Cruz, Servando y Florentino, Real El Canario, etc. and performed at festivals like Congreso Internacional de Salsa del Atlántico, Merengazo del Atlántico, Carnaval de S/c de Tenerife, etc. He has also worked with Maquinaria Band, Orquesta ‘La Sabrosa’ and one of the most recognized traditional cuban music bands in Canary Islands: Troveros de Asieta.
As a composer & arranger, he has worked with North Atlantic Jazz Connection, La Banda del Solar, Big Band de Canarias, Reunion Big Band, Musikene Big Band, Sedajazz Latin Ensemble and many others.
As a teacher, Natanael has taught several workshops and masterclass in deferents countries in Europe.
